Millville Rescue Squad, in conjunction with Community Emergency Services Training Academy (CESTA), has announced the PULSE Program, an all-inclusive program which improves the chances of a successful outcome following incidents of sudden cardiac arrest.

The PULSE Program has been designed to offer necessary equipment and training to businesses, facilities, and other organizations to respond to cardiac arrest as quickly as possible, in order to increase the chance of survival of such an event. Cardiac arrest kills twice as many people per year than colon, breast, and prostate cancer combined; Millville Rescue Squad has identified the need for early response and activation of defibrillation and has created a program to educate the community on how to respond to this situation.

According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, chances of survival of sudden cardiac arrest drops 10% for every minute that passes without intervention. Cardiac arrest is not limited to any particular age group, gender, or lifestyle. Annually, onsite AEDs save three times more lives than dispatched AEDs. The national average from “call to shock” with dispatched AED is 8.5 minutes versus “call to shock” with AED onsite is 4.1 minutes.

Participation in this program is open to all businesses, both private and public, including manufacturing, healthcare, childcare, public service, education, and many others. Interested groups may contact Millville Rescue Squad directly.
